FHM MAGAZINE

FHM, an abbreviation for: For Him Magazine is a quite successful monthly men’s magazine (also known as a lads’ mag) that was first published as FHM in 1994 in the United Kingdom, but it has actually been around since 1985 under the name for him. FHM which was founded by Chris Astridge was first distributed through high street men’s fashion outlets and expanded to newsagents as a quarterly publication by the spring of 1987. For him had most recently hardened up its editorial approach to compete with the expanding fashion market and has also introduced a sports supplement along with its normal edition. The magazine then had its name changed to FHM. As of 2005, it publishes twenty-seven different editions per month in countries such as the U.S., Russia, Denmark Australia, New Zealand, France, South Africa, Spain and many more.

FHM, which is produced by the consumer division of publishing giant EMAP, was originally launched as a response to the success of LOADED Magazine the previous year (1993). FHM relies heavily on photographs of beautiful actresses and pop singers that are presently getting media attention and has a much more respectable air than pornographic magazines. FHM is usually stocked in the lifestyle rather than the adult section of newsstands. Read the rest of this entry »

Flyer Designs for Bookstore Elements

If you own a bookstore, promoting the items for sale can be sort of a struggle. With all the books offered, including each and every item is quite impossible that the next best thing is to choose a design that can promote as many books as you can in just one flyers printing job.

With online flyer printing, you are given the option of ordering digital prints or bulk. But, for a business that has new items in store regularly, like new bestsellers, producing in fewer amounts is advisable to make design and content changes from time to time.

1. Book excerpts: With a bigger flyer size, you can construct a design consisting of rips and strips of paper. Then, arranged as a collage, you can include the title and some excerpts found in the book to promote the books out for season. You can have different shades of the strips for a cleaner, more realistic look. Read the rest of this entry »

How Three Publishing Myths Kill the Author

How Three Publishing Myths Kill the Author Judy Cullins ©2004 All Rights Reserved.

Agents and publishing houses have their best interests at heart, not the author’s. Save yourself from headaches, disappointments, and money down the drain. Become your own independent publisher and produce your book faster and cheaper. All you need is a little help from professionals.

Myth: You need an agent or big publishing house to market your book and make big money.

Since big publishers don’t look at unknown authors, now is the time to look at what they can do for you. Dan Poynter, self-publishing guru, says that if a publisher can’t sell four times as many books as you can, you’re better off selling it yourself. Self-publish first because it acts as a test market for your book. If it sells well (over 10,000 in a year), publishers may be interested in your book. Read the rest of this entry »
